Cherai Beach

Cherai Beach is a picturesque beach, dotted with seashells of several shapes and hues and located on the north-end of the Vypin Island in the Ernakulum District of Kerala. Flaunted as one of the excellent beaches in the state Cherai beach is just 25 km from the Metro city Cochin. Popular by the name of ‘Princess of the Arabian Sea’, it’s a perfect destination for relaxation with the beachfront and picturesque view.

Cherai beach is a perfect blend of the sea and the backwaters. The beach looks more beautiful with green groves and paddy field. Chinese fishing nets on the waterfront and thick coconut groves add charm to this place. Dolphins are occasionally seen here.

What makes Cherai Beach different from others is its 15 Km long coastline. The most popular activity at Cherai Beach is swimming, sunbathing and surfing and the beach is very clean and ideal for swimming. Adventure enthusiasts can enjoy various water sports activities like water scooters, speed boats, snorkelling and canoe ride etc. which are available on rent.

The northern end of Cherai is more fascinating from the main beach. Here, backwaters are very close to the ocean and separated only by sandy stretch of land. You can also go for viewing dolphins frolicking in the sea if you wish.

Kite Flying is other very interesting activity to do in Cherai as locals are really very fond of it. This activity is so popular that there is an annual kite flying festival celebrated every year with great joy.

At Cherai, you’ll find a lot of high mask lamps along the walkway that make this place pleasurable during the night. You can also find a children park on the beach where you can play and spend lovely moments with family & kids.

Cherai Beach is just 25 km from Kochi, and 30 km from Cochin International Airport. The nearest towns are North Paravur (6 km) and Kodungallur (10 km) and the nearest railway station is Aluva (20 km).
